French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano is a diet book with a difference. Its purpose is not just to help you lose pounds and keep them off, but also to appreciate good food and straightforward, effective cooking. There are many useful secrets in this book .

Guide to Effective Weight Loss

The method used by Guiliano to promote weight loss is not complicated. Over a three-month period, simply note down what you eat each day and soon you will observe a trend in the fattening foods that you eat: these may be pastries, chocolate, pizza, biscuits, fried foods or fizzy drinks. Decide what you can cut out, or at least minimize them gradually.

Magic Leek Soup

During this time spend one weekend sampling nothing but the special Magic Leek Soup. This is very easy to prepare; for one serving, use two to three leeks. Wash and clean them and chop into small pieces. Place in a saucepan of boiling water and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes .

Both the liquid and the leeks can be used. Drain the liquid off and save for later. For meals, eat the leeks and drink the liquid every two to three hours.

Following this short diet is the only difficult part of Guiliano’s presciption, and has amazing effects. It is a great way to jump-start the new you.

Drink Enough Water

Guiliano claims that none of us drinks enough water during the day and explains that some of us confuse hunger with thirst. Try drinking a cup of water first if you are hungry to see if the hunger will disappear. Drink at least eight cups a day and especially first thing in the morning and just before bed. Carry a bottle of water on you at all times.

Never be Hungry

As long as you aren’t tempted to eat it, always have something in your bag to snack on for those hungry moments, and choose something healthy such as pumpkin seeds or soy nuts, so that you aren’t eating empty calories.

Eat Local Produce

Discover a wider variety of fruit and vegetables in local and farmers’ markets. The more fruit and veg you can add to your diet, the healthier and slimmer you will be. Add herbs and nuts to salads.

This is only a selection of the hints and tips for weight loss included in this inspiring book. The combination of personal stories, advice and recipes, make this work an exceptional read.
