Stop making excuses for weight gain and slow metabolism. Take control of what you put in your mouth and how you exercise to lose weight and burn more calories.
“If you can eat properly, exercise, and take the right supplements, you can maintain your metabolic rate over your life span!” according to John Berardi, author of The Metabolism Advantage (p7, Rodale, 2006).
Berardi states that age does not have to equal a slow metabolism. A slow metabolism can be reversed at any age with the right actions. The Metabolism Advantage is an 8-week program that allows you to burn double the amount of calories by eating the right foods; exercising properly using resistance training and taking the right supplements to boost your metabolism.
Dieting does not work because it decreases your metabolism; decreases muscle mass and causes weight gain. By contrast, The Metabolism Advantage works by making sure you are eating the right calories, adding protein to every meal and snack, and getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
The Metabolic Advantage eating plan starves fat and makes you feel full without depriving yourself. You won’t experience cravings, muscle loss or binging on this plan. You will eat every 2-3 hours, building your meals around protein and vegetables.
Berardi also lives by the 90% rule, meaning that if you stick to the plan at least 90% of the time, you will be successful. You can plan up to four cheat meals per week as long you don’t binge during these times. Cheat meals are best saved for special occasions or times when you are dining out.
Berardi claims that supplements have gotten a bad reputation and many are safe and effective. “They will harmonize with your nutrition and exercise plans to produce the fastest, healthiest and most impressive results” (76).
The Metabolism Advantage recommends taking fish oil capsules, protein supplements and greens supplements, to name a few.
Although much of the information shared and advice given in The Metabolism Advantage is useful, it is important to use supplements with caution. Read labels and possible drug interactions and research supplements before you buy them to learn about their potential side effects.
