Many diets go by the wayside during the holiday season. By following these simple weight loss tips, losing weight is still possible during the holidays.
Not only do the holidays tempt us with unhealthy food options but the busy schedule and bad weather can also create havoc in the workout schedule. Although it seems like a good idea to put the weight loss program on the back burner during the holiday season, it will only make it harder to get back on track in January.
Make Workouts a Priority for Holiday Weightloss.
Manage time effectively for workout success. Schedule workouts like any other appointment in the datebook or on the smart phone. When workouts become a scheduled activity, they are less likely to be skipped. Also try to include a friend in the workout program. Since the holiday season is usually spent with close friends and family, spend it going on a hike or taking all the guys to the gym to lift weights while the ladies participate in a yoga class.
Do not Skip the Workout. Because the holidays are so busy we feel that many of the holiday activities can be counted as a workout. Although walking is a great exercise, shopping does not count as a workout. So keep that scheduled workout for the day and plan to feel rejuvenated for the rest of the day.
Continue to Eat Healthy for Further Weightloss Success.
Keep with the food plan but be realistic. Although the holidays do offer a wide variety of unhealthy foods, there are also plenty of dishes that provide healthy options. Turkey is a very healthy protein, but skip the drumstick and choose the breast meat instead. Sweet potatoes, vegetables, and cranberries are all healthy foods. Fill the plate with mostly vegetables and fruits, leaving very little room for unhealthy options.
Do not Skip Meals even though it seems like the right answer. On the actual day of the holiday, we usually will skip breakfast, wanting to save the calories for the big afternoon meal. However, skipping a meal can easily cause overeating for the rest of the day. Even if it is just a light breakfast, make sure to have a healthy meal to start the day.
Take Care of the Body During the Holidays to Lose Weight.
Take advantage of healthy activities. The holiday season causes many to travel to different locations, which brings a new variety of activities available. Look for opportunities to do something unique as a healthy activity.
Rest to keep the body healthy. The holiday season is very busy, between shopping, cooking and traveling. Continue to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night so the immune system will remain healthy. Also know that being tired can also increase hunger.
With these weight loss tips the holiday season may bring a smaller waist instead of the traditional New Year’s goals and promises of weight loss.
