Weighted Hula Hoops

Fitness Fun for the Entire Family

Hula hooping has been around for generations, but lately weighted hula hoops are becoming a popular way to stay in shape.

Aside from just being a cool hobby, hula hooping is fast becoming a fun way for the entire family to become more physically fit. Some of those looking to lose weight and get into shape are experimenting with weighted hula hoops.

Weighted hula hoops come in all shapes and sizes and can even be custom made. Contrary to popular belief, having a very heavy hula hoop will not cause you to lose more weight. Hula hoops with extreme weights will only make the hoop hard to use and cause hours of frustration.

The hula hoop weight loss formula is simple: the longer you can hula hoop, the more calories you will burn. To get the maximum effect from the hoop, it must be the correct size for your body. The hula hoops that you can generally find in any department store toy section are usually made for children. If you are an adult who wants exercise with a hula hoop, it is best to buy one online where you can get one that is especially made for adults.

How to Choose Your Hoop

When you are purchasing a hula hoop, you should find one that when standing in front of you, it reaches midway between your navel and your chest. This should give you the correct size for your body type. If you will be using the hoop to exercise, you should choose a slightly smaller hoop, since you will have to make more rotations to keep the hoop up, thereby causing more movement and burning more calories.

If you are purchasing hoops to use just for fun, larger hoops may work better, since they are easier for beginners to keep up and rotating. The ideal hula hoop size, whether you are using it for fun or a workout, should be between 32 and 45 inches and weigh between one and two pounds.

Weighted Hula Hoops and Workouts

When you're working out with a hula hoop, fun is the key. If the workout is fun, you are more likely to do it again and again. You can find hula hoop workout DVD's, hula hoop workout videos for free online or simply turn on some music and hula your way through 20 minutes. Some gyms are even offering hula hooping classes for members.

Since hula hooping can be done either alone or in a group, it is an ideal and fun workout. Hula hooping is a great way to get your kids active and show them that you can be active, too. One great workout is to have a hooping contest in your family to see who can hoop the longest. With all the calories your family will burn, everyone comes out a winner.
