This article provides readers with information about the neutropenic diet and information about fast weight loss diet plans.

The Neutropenic diet is a diet that was introduced to patients recovering from stem cell transplants. Because these patients are typically low on neutrophil counts (the agents in the body that fight off infections), they are very susceptible to sicknesses. This diet helps reduce the risk of illnesses brought on by food.

What is the Neutropenic Diet?

The diet is specifically created to help keep individuals from being exposed to bacteria that is on food. Therefore, the patient is given foods with very low bacteria counts and as they slowly build their immunity back, they are introduced to higher bacteria foods slowly. Typically, the diet lasts for several months after treatment, slowly building an individual’s immune system.

What Kinds of Foods are Allowed?

With the neutropenic diet, foods with low levels of bacteria are allowed. While a healthy person would easily fight off the bad bacteria that is present in their bodies, someone with a lowered immune system would find trouble doing so. Dairy products that are pasteurized are allowed, as are canned and cooked vegetables and fruits. Fruits with thick skins, such as bananas and oranges, are also allowed. Tap water is allowed, but well water is not.

Which Kinds of Food is Not Allowed?

Any food that has a higher amount of bacteria is not allowed. For instance, raw vegetables and fruits are not allowed with the neutropenic diet. Any dairy product that is not pasteurized is not allowed. Meats that are raw or semi raw, such as shellfish, sushi or salami are not allowed. By keeping patients from eating these types of food, doctors keep the patients safe from dangerous bacteria that their immune systems are not able to fight off.

Neutropenic Diet: Fast Weight Loss Plans?

The neutropenic diet is not a diet that individuals would normally go on to lose weight. In fact, some of the healthiest food that contributes to weight loss is restricted with this diet, such as the fresh leafy green vegetables. Individuals taking the neutropenic diet are doing so in order to keep their immune systems healthy and not because they need to lose weight. If you try this diet in order to lose weight fast, chances are you’ll be very disappointed with the results. Unless calories are severely restricted, which is not healthy, the individual taking this diet is not likely to lose weight.

By using the information above, individuals can find out exactly what the neutropenic diet is and how it may help them when recovering from stem cell transplant.
